Thomas Davies was born in Blackwood in 1895, the son of David and Elizabeth Davies of 3 Central Avenue, Oakdale. He enlisted at Newport, joining the Welsh Regiment initially, but later transferring to the 1st/7th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry.

The latter unit was the pioneer battalion of the 50th Division, which took part in many of the battles in France and Flanders. Private T Davies (93340) died 5 October 1918, aged 23.

He was interred initially in Quedlinburg Cemetery, Saxony, Germany and after the war was moved to the Niederzwehren Cemetery, Kassel, Germany, a cemetery for prisoners of war who died in Germany.
