David John Evans, of Oakdale, (eldest son of Henry and Mary Evans of Pontypridd?) served in the Royal Garrison Artillery. In late 1917 he was in the 380th Siege Battery, a heavy artillery unit of XXI Corps, part of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force in Palestine, part of the Ottoman Empire.
At the beginning of November, having captured Beersheba from the Turks, the Expeditionary Force took Gaza and pushed north, with XXI Corps on the left nearer the coast, taking Jerusalem in early December.
Gunner D J Evans (44181) died of wounds 19 December 1917, aged 24?, and is buried in the Ramleh War Cemetery, Palestine (now modern day Israel).
