Samuel Fisher, coal miner, son of the late Alfred and late Sarah Fisher, of Blackwood served in the South Wales Borderers, and arrived in the Balkans, presumably Gallipoli, in June 1915.

Wounded, he returned home to his aunt, Mrs M Crew, High Street, Blackwood. Pte. Samuel Fisher later died of pneumonia, presumably related to his wounds, 25 July 1917, aged 44.

He had been transferred previously to the Class W Reserve — soldiers who were more valuable in civil rather than military employment. He is buried in the Penmaen Chapelyard with a CWG headstone.
