Richard Henry Harvey, of Oakdale, born in Glamorgan, husband of Alice had a young daughter. He served in the 4th Battalion South Wales Borderers, part of 40th Brigade, in southern Mesopotamia in 1916.
On 22 April 1916 the brigade attacked the Turkish positions at Sannaiyat, advancing across a quagmire, in what proved to be the last desperate assault to break through to Kut. The attack was repulsed with heavy losses.
Private R H Harvey (19883) was killed in action on 22 April 1916, aged 32, and is commemorated on the Basra Memorial, Iraq.
